Hi, I’m Tom Colcombe, owner of Rig Ready RV Inspections. RVing isn’t just my business—it’s my passion. From my early days as an Eagle Scout to years of RVing with my family, I’ve experienced firsthand the joys and challenges of RV life. Whether I was tent camping, in pop-up campers, travel trailers, or 5th wheels, I understand how important it is to have a working, reliable RV ready for adventure.

I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh and bring 40 years of experience in fluid filtration and electrical systems. As an NRVIA Certified RV Inspector, I combine technical expertise with hands-on RV knowledge to help buyers make informed, confident decisions. As an NRVTA Registered Mobile RV Technician, I offer maintenance services to keep your rig in peak condition—helping you stay road-ready while avoiding costly, untimely repairs.

My wife Victoria, a retired financial and banking analyst, works alongside me in the business. She brings her sharp eye for detail to ensure that every inspection report is thorough, accurate, and easy to understand.

Why get an inspection on a new RV, our dealer says they perform a pre-delivery inspection?

While most dealers do perform a pre-delivery inspection (PDI), these are often limited in scope and focused on basic functionality. A certified third-party RV inspection is far more detailed and impartial. Here’s why it’s worth it—even on a brand-new RV:

Independent & Unbiased: We work for you, not the dealership, so our inspections are honest, thorough, and not influenced by sales goals or delivery timelines.
Catches Missed or Rushed Issues: New RVs often leave the factory with defects—loose wiring, plumbing leaks, appliance malfunctions, and more. We regularly find issues that were overlooked or rushed during dealer prep.
Saves Time and Headaches Later: Identifying problems before you take delivery allows the dealer to fix them on their dime—not yours—so you’re not stuck making warranty appointments down the road that could potentially tie your new RV up for days, weeks, or even months before they can fit warranty work into their service schedule. Having your new RV parked at the shop keeps you from enjoying and using it.

What types of RVs do you inspect?

At Rig Ready RV Inspections, we inspect a wide range of RV types, including:

Motorhomes – Class A, B, and C
Towables – Fifth wheels, travel trailers, toy haulers, and pop-up campers
Park Models and Destination Trailers

How much is an RV inspection?

RV inspection pricing varies depending on several key factors—including the type, size, age of the RV, and the level inspection package selected. Equipment like the number of A/C units, slide-outs, and complex systems also impacts the overall scope of the inspection. For example, some RVs may have a single A/C unit and no slide-outs, while others have three A/C units and five slide-outs, requiring significantly more time and attention.

While each inspection is customized to the specific RV, here are our general starting prices by RV type and size to give you an idea:

Pop-Up Campers – Silver Shield starting at $350
Travel Trailers, Fifth Wheels, and Class C Motorhomes:

Up to 20 feet – Silver Shield starting at $700

20-35 Feet – Silver Shield starting at $850

35+ Feet – Silver Shield starting at $1,000

Class A Motorhomes – Silver Shield starting at $1,200
Park Models - Silver Shield starting at $1,200
Destination Trailers – Silver Shield starting at $1,000

Typically the Platinum Shield Inspection cost is an additional 20-30% plus fluid test analysis fee (if applicable), but also depends on size, type and age of RV.

Please note for all inspections there is also a flat service visit fee of $50, plus a mileage charge of $1.50/mile over 50 miles which is only assessed one way from our closest location to you.

How long does an inspection take?

Inspection times vary depending on the type and size of RV and the inspection package you choose.

Here's a general breakdown:

Silver Shield Inspections (essential systems & safety checks): typically take 5 to 7 hours
Platinum Shield Inspections (comprehensive full-system inspections): can take 7 to 9 hours or more, especially for larger RVs like Class A motorhomes or larger fifth wheels and travel trailers (number of slide outs and a/c units for example vary greatly by type and size).

We take the time needed to thoroughly inspect each RV—no shortcuts, just peace of mind.

After the inspection, we deliver a detailed digital report with photos and notes, usually within 1-3 days. Same-day/rush delivery may be available upon request and with an additional rush fee, case dependent.

Will I receive a written report?

Yes! Every inspection includes a detailed written report delivered as a PDF . The report is comprehensive, covering all inspected components, and includes clear notes and high-resolution photos to document the RV’s condition.

Our goal is to provide you with a full understanding of what’s working well, what may need attention, and any potential safety issues.

After you receive your report, we also include a follow-up phone consultation to walk you through the findings, answer any questions, and help you make informed decisions with confidence.

Reports are typically delivered within 1-3 days of the inspection, and same-day/rush delivery may be available upon request subject to an additional rush fee, case dependent.

Can I be present during the inspection?

To ensure a thorough and safe inspection, we ask that the RV owner or buyer not be present during the actual inspection process. This helps our certified inspectors focus fully on the detailed evaluation without distractions and maintain a safe environment—especially when working around electrical systems, propane, and moving parts.

However, we welcome you to be available immediately before or after the inspection to discuss any concerns or questions. Plus, after we deliver your detailed report, we include a follow-up phone consultation to review everything with you and provide clarity on our findings.

Do you inspect RVs at dealerships or private seller's locations?

Yes! We offer inspections at both dealerships and private seller’s locations for your convenience. Wherever the RV is located, we bring our certified inspection services directly to you.

This flexibility ensures you get a thorough, unbiased evaluation no matter where you’re buying or selling, helping you make confident decisions.
